Dan Berman joined RSM in 2012 from the Boston University School of Law, where he was Director of the Graduate Tax Program and Professor of the Practice of Tax Law. He previously practiced international tax law for 25 years in Washington, D.C. both in major law firms and with the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation as Legislation Counsel and the U.S. Treasury Department as Deputy International Tax Counsel. His experience includes tax planning and counseling involving international aspects of U.S. income tax law applicable to cross-border transactions, investment and structures, inbound and outbound, involving all areas of the globe for companies, individuals, non-profits and governments; managing foreign law issues and foreign counsel; tax controversies and litigation; development and interpretation of lax legislation; interpretation and development of tax treaties. In addition to many published articles, Dan is the senior author of Making Tax Law (Carolina Academic Press, 2014), which opens the legislative "sausage factory" to reveal how U.S. tax law comes into being.

Richard left Edinburgh University in 1988. By 1990 he was running two branch offices in Scotland. He then replaced one of the partners of that firm approximately two years later in the practice’s Court Department. Richard established Bannerman Solicitors, commencing practice on his own on 1 April 2005. The firm has significantly grown since then, now employing seven other solicitors. From the outset, Richard has undertaken work for both private and legally aided clients. When establishing Bannerman Solicitors, Richard made a commitment to undertake a large proportion of Legal Aid work. Bannerman Solicitors has been in the top five law firms providing services to legally aided clients on family law matters for the last five years and being the largest provider of Legal Aid assistance to family law clients for a number of years. Richard continues to provide representation at the Family Court of Western Australia, the Perth Children’s Court and the Perth Magistrate’s Court. Richard represents parties in all aspects of family law – through negotiations, in mediations, throughout proceedings up to and including representation at trial. Richard particularly enjoys the challenges and advocacy that is associated with trial work. Richard would complete around 20 Family Court trials each year as well as Restraining Orders, Inquests as well as Children’s Court trials, sometimes on instructions from DCPFS. Richard also maintains an interest in representing clients in criminal matters. Throughout his period of practice in Australia, Richard has been appointed as an Independent Children’s Lawyer on more than 200 occasions, making him one of the most highly experienced Independent Children’s Lawyers in Perth.

Jakkarin Bantathong is the head of Baker McKenzie’s Insurance and Corporate & Commercial Practice Groups in Bangkok. He also serves as knowledge and professional development partner, overseeing the training of all lawyers in the Firm’s Bangkok office. Mr. Bantathong joined the Firm in 1987, and became a partner in 1995. Mr. Bantathong has more than 20 years of experience advising and representing multinational clients in a broad range of high-level company and commercial transactions. In particular, he assists clients in mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, as well as shipping and maritime matters. His client base includes major insurance groups, international manufacturers, oil and gas companies and leading Thai firms.

Roeland Bavinck is a member of Baker McKenzie Amsterdam’s Tax Practice Group as well as the US Focus Group. He joined the Firm in November 2011. Roeland regularly advises on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, as well as on corporate restructuring, financing transactions, treaty application and EU law.
